Stage One:
Undifferentiated AML(M0); In this stage, bone marrow cells show no signs of differentiation. Stage Two: Meyloblastic AM: (M1); In this stage, bone marrow cells show signs of granulocytic differentiation. Stage Three: Myeloblastic Leukemia (M2); In this stage, bone marrow cells are beyond the promyelocyte (early granulocyte) stage. Stage Four: Promyelocytic Leukemia (M3); In this stage, most of the abnormal cells are early granulocytes. Stage Five: Myelomoncytic Leukemia (M4); In this stage, bone marrow and blood have monocytes and differentiated granulocytes in them (<20%). Their may also be leukocytes called eosinophils (a type of granulocyte). Stage Six: Monocytic Leukemia (M5); SUBSET 1: poorly differentiated monoblasts with lacy-appearing genetic material. SUBSET 2: a large number of mnoblasts, promonocytes and monocytes (may be more monocytes in bloodstream vs. bone marrow) Stage Seven: Erythroleukemia (M6); In this stage, abnormal blood cells start forming, which make up more than one-half of the nucleated cells in bone marrow. Stage Eight: Megakaryonblastic leukemia (M7); In this stage, the blast cells look like small megacaryocytes or lymphoblasts. May also be categorized by extensive fibrous tissue deposits in the bone marrow. |
